2020 Dodge Ram 1500 vs 2020 Honda Ridgeline

2020 Dodge Ram 1500 vs 2020 Honda Ridgeline

Since its launch in 1981, the Dodge Ram has steadily carved out a place of its own in the full-size pickup market. Continually modernized and refined over the years, it's now in its fifth generation with a new release slated for 2020.

But it doesn't have the market to itself, and competition in the pickup arena is fierce. How do the 2020 Ram 1500 features stack up against one of its main competitors, the 2020 Honda Ridgeline?

Powertrain and Performance Comparison

Both trucks offer a V6 engine as standard, giving enough power to drive a truck of this size. However, the Ram 1500 has a slight edge in the engine department. While the Ridgeline offers a 3.5L mill providing 280 horsepower, the Ram's 3.6L engine is much more impressive, pushing out 305 horsepower.

What's more, the Ram 1500 offers even more power if you need it. Upgrade to the 5.7L V8 option and you'll have a mighty 395 horsepower to draw on, more than enough for any need. In comparison, the Ridgeline is limited to its single, lower-power engine format, putting the Dodge into a different league.

However, even with its higher standard engine power, the Dodge takes the edge in fuel economy. The most economical trim offers figures of 11.9L / 100km (city) and 9.4L / 100km (highway) compared to the Honda's figures of 12.8L / 100km (city) and 9.5L / 100km (highway).

Add to these figures the better tank size of the Dodge, at nearly 95L compared to the Honda's 74L, and you'll be able to work harder and for longer in the Ram 1500.

Towing and Hauling

As you'd expect, the difference in engine power also shows up where it really matters for a pickup, in haulage and towing capacities.

With the improved powertrain, the Dodge Ram can haul payloads of up to 866kg compared to the Ridgeline's maximum of 694kg.

The Ram also outshines the Ridgeline in towing capacity, with the V6 engine towing up to 3,500kg compared to the Honda's 2,275kg. Switch to the V8 option, and the Dodge can tow a mammoth maximum of 5,275kg - perfect when you need to get things done.

Interior Features

Both trucks are comfortable and spacious, available with luxuries such as heated seats and LCD entertainment systems.

However, the larger passenger cabin means the Ram 1500 can seat up to six adults compared to the Ridgeline's five.

Summary: 2020 Dodge Ram 1500 vs 2020 Honda Ridgeline

Although both trucks offer great performance and a large number of modern features, the Dodge is on top when it comes to the core capabilities a pickup needs. With its stronger performance and higher towing and haulage capacities, it's more rugged and robust all round. And what's more, it does this while being marginally more economical in fuel consumption.

However, if you're looking for a slightly smaller pickup more suited to daily driving than working hard, then the slimmer Honda is worth considering, offering slightly more comforts as standard for similar prices.

But if you're looking for a full-size pickup with plenty of power in reserve, contact us now to arrange a test drive of the 2020 Ram 1500 in Calgary.
